Detectives..eh
the womnder remains and yet it doesn't..
often one wonders about detective stories..motives anf clues of crimes unspoken...unrevealed suddenly unleashed and then the piecemeal revelation of a theory so convincing that not only the characters in the book ..but also the outsiders accept it as (for lack of a better analogy)- pathar ki lakeer ..
but even as a kid as soon as one develops any sense of logi..definition of crime and has seen and observed N human biengs and animals...one grows sceptical....quite often one isn't able to explains one's own behavior..how can u explain others by observation or worse ..through clues...may be some one wrote a diary about stuff he fantasised about ..and then is incriminated fore a crime just cos he left his imagination run wild..or maybe a melancholic depressed murder victim's sister who was also the witness...had done the murder and then bribed or blackmailed the one convicted about some thing.....especially in the novels of the 60's ,,,70's..and earlier wen u could not ven prove a body'[s identity (no dna testing ) god knows how many innocent ppl might have been hanged or lost their lives behind the bars hidden form the world they were once a part of...the actual victims of the power politics at play ....
ne ways ..jst ever wonder about the fragility of the concept of evidence...and proof...an history..mythology..even science that rests on it....the why try so hard to prove ur point..well aha ...this is where how u substantiate ur bit comes to play..support it with wat ppl want to hear or give them somethinh scandulous..the risk is u never know which one they want!!
so we were discussing the fragility of evidence...There is hullabaloo over witnesses turning hostile...that is only a sign of the wesakness of the concept of witnesses...A man can lose his life just because some 'eye witness' who might have sold his conscience and soul or merely a poor guy who does not remember things clearly but refuses to accept so...speaks agianst him and identifies him as the criminal....So is the system of justice a farce...i don't know but it is far form perfect..but can it be made perfect..well then we'll have to start defining the parameters of perfect..that's for some other time
